Foster Parents for Baby Owls
Two baby screech owls came to stay at 762 Antonette several weeks ago while their caretaker, Layton Roark, was in London for two weeks with the animal trainer for the Harry Potter films. The babies weighed about 100 grams each upon arrival. Twice a day they were fed small dead mice. Each owl would eat between 4 and 5 mice per day. At meal time each owl would be weighed to make sure one wasn’t getting too much of the food. The owls gained weight and went from 100 grams to 110 grams each in two weeks. This is just about their adult weight. The owls will be cared for in captivity for several more weeks and then released back into the wild when they are mature enough to care for themselves.
